Prepare yourself to be taken on a journey into the history, wildlife, and beauty of the old west in the Jerry Thomas Gallery and Collection – a must see destination point for wildlife and western art enthusiasts. The beautiful gallery building, designed with Southwest architectural accents, is a spacious 5,000 sq. ft., state of the art facility adjoining the El Quartelejo Museum on K96 in Scott City. Collections include beautiful Native American, Civil War, Indian War, and cowboy trail items.

El Quartelejo Museum is a unique timeline museum.  It leads the visitor through the history of Scott County from the fossil remains of the inland sea over 80 million years ago through modern day agriculture.  Included in the exhibits are a replica of El Quartelejo pueblo, rocks and fossils, and other historic displays.  A second building houses vintage tractors & buggies, household and farming artifacts.

The Park on the Plains playground was built in the fall of 2009 by volunteers using funds raised by the community. Children of all ages are drawn to this sprawling “play city” like magnets!

Lake Scott State Park is a picturesque oasis in the high plains, named one of the 50 must see state parks by National Geographic Magazine. Hidden within a western Kansas prairie, the park is a startling oasis of natural springs, deep wooded canyons and craggy bluffs. A 100 acre lake, created by a dam constructed in 1930, is nestled among the picturesque hills. Rich in history and scenic splendor, Lake Scott State Park and Wildlife Area provides a perfect recreational setting for boating, year-round fishing, swimming, camping, hiking, horseback riding and wildlife observation.

Built in 2012, the Spencer Flight and Education Center provides a local venue for high-quality flight instruction in addition to various educational programs and resources for individuals of all ages. Equally important at the SFEC are the aviation-related courses and programs for both adults and youth. Equipped with the only full-motion flight simulator between Denver and Salina, the SFEC is home to a Redbird FMX, an FAA-approved simulator that offers various aircraft, location and weather condition setups, and is currently configured for a Beechcraft A36, Beechcraft BE58, Cessna 172 and a Cessna 206. Flight time in the simulator offers unique training opportunities at a lower per-hour cost. Simulator hours can be used for keeping skills fresh as well as for obtaining new ratings.

The Spencer Flight & Education Center is a 501(c)3 public charity our mission: "To actively promote the safety and success of Western Kansas pilots and passengers by providing a local venue for high-quality flight instruction in addition to various educational programs and resources for individuals of all ages."

Whether you are looking for a place to spend the day shopping, to explore historical sites, or just spend quality time with the family, Scott City and the surrounding area offer a sense of community, a commitment to service, cutting edge amenities, and an easier, slow-paced lifestyle—all of which come together in one of Southwest Kansas’ most picturesque locales.
